A Moral Quandary!

I’ve tried to put my finger on what it is that’s clouding my mind of late and I’ve determined that I’m afraid.  That’s it!  I’m afraid.  I’ve staked my future on the fact that I am a citizen of a great land but I’m watching as it falls apart.  I’ve set my lifestyle on the ideology of a principality but it seems that my American Dream sits on the edge of an abyss.   I feel that I am looking at the obvious but find myself surprised at the amount of people that could be deemed as oblivious.    Never have I been so fearful for the future-not just mine but that of my children.   My plan to grow old and mirror the lifestyle that my parents exemplified is simply not wise.  I feel it’s time to change course…for the country has done so already. 

Yes, this earth continues to spin on its axis-yet something other than earth is askew.  Mentally zoom into the earth’s atmosphere and reflect on the truth that this world is full of diverse people and cultures-with too many living under regimes that are askew.  Zoom in one more time and focus the world map on the U.S. and realize that though our country continues to imply we have power-the truth is- we’re weakened; hemorrhaging; vulnerable to many things.  The government and our constitution are askew with each other; misaligned, out of kilter, off center.  Let’s add in one more factor- our government, the People and our constitution are all at odds with each other and it’s a treacherous web to be sure.

It has been stated that our constitution was designed to govern a moral people.  Based on this, if the morality of the people changed significantly, the constitution would no longer be relevant.  This is where we are as a country and why there are many constitutional issues in the news these days.  Our country  has changed so much that it's citizens are in some sort of culture shock or denial. Perhaps some don't see the drastic changes in our culture or simply don't care.  Worse yet, there may be some that are in agreement that The Constitution of the United States is no longer valid.    

Our government was founded upon a constitution that purposely included checks and balances.  It was designed to uphold the principles and values of its people.   The constitution and its mandates still serve as a beacon, shedding light onto the valued core of this nation.  However, degeneration has occurred.  The minds of the people have strayed and have turned to self-indulgence.  The moral direction of We, the People has become flexible so as to be tolerant. Morals are inherently not flexible. But these days, the will of the People has eroded.  Instead of being a nation ready to stand up for truth at any cost…we’ve decided to be bystanders of moral deterioration-under the guise of being understanding or open-minded.  This affects us in every way; religiously, legally, ethically, politically, and economically.   We’ve moved away from the moral directive to "let your yes be yes and your no be no” (Matthew 5:37) and the moral absolute that right is right and wrong is wrong.   Truth has been blended with tolerance in every aspect of our lives…. and anything other than that has been deemed politically incorrect or socially unacceptable.

 There have been many generations that have fought the good fight. I’m not talking about a literal war…but the battle to uphold ethics with sound judgment and to uphold truth with standards.  Being the home of the free and the brave we’ve stood up for the world and ourselves-keeping moral evil at bay.  But our minds were not equally yoked and our borders were not soundly secured and now this evil- that I define as Destruction -resides inside our gates and seeks to destroy us from within.  

 In this weary world there is a time to let your guard down and a time to be on alert.  With no moral back-bone we no longer know how to classify our stance.   The resolve of this free people has grown tired and the easy path has been taken.  It seems simpler to submit than to rise up and fight once more for the good.  It’s less painful to just let others have their way and be done with it.  This, in itself, is an exact example of how the morals and will of the People have eroded.  With this change in our core values and resolve, our government-with greedy men at its helm-has become a beast that wants to devour its master.   The media has become this creature’s minion.  Propaganda is the social media tool that will lead the whole nation astray for we’ve raised a generation that does not know politics…or God. 

For you see, our government and God are linked to each other….and why?  The answer is found in something most don’t realize; the politics of this country was founded by and for a moral, godly people.  Four simple words show this to be true:  “In God We Trust”.  This is no longer the philosophy of The People.   We’ve made a firm decision to move away from God and rule ourselves.  With this, anything goes.  For example:  truth becomes flexible…and therefore laws become amendable…and therefore beliefs become inconsistent and therefore resolve becomes pliable and therefore respect becomes insignificant and therefore indifference becomes relevant and therefore dignity becomes unimportant and therefore truth no longer matters.  This, my friend, is the deterioration I am going on about… and it is madness!  Don’t kid yourself….this is the way it happens!  It’s unseen-like an intruder…and it destroys from within.   Truth and ethics has been mixed with greed and power and has weaved this country into something else entirely.  The moral fabric of our society has changed and the collapse of this godly nation has begun.   

We must stand, united -but on what?   If we do not stand on principles and morality what do we stand on?  What becomes the guiding force that makes us who we are as a People?   I seek an explanation for I can’t bear to not have one.  I’ve surmised that The People of this floundering nation are either too weary to move into action or too bewildered and uninformed to do so.  This is why propaganda can take its place in the news media and in our courts of law.  Yes, there are some who see Moral Destruction as the demise of our democracy, but too many have surrendered to that fact already.  The white flags have been raised. The wicked use these captives and the uninformed or well-intentioned to work on the side of Destruction and soon the godly will be out-numbered!  What is the driving force of those who seek the Destruction of America?  Whether these people are propelled forward for the sake of Self or to forsake God, in whom this nation should give its allegiance, I do not know...but one of these two choices is the answer!   Either way, the end result will be the same.  Unless something changes the fall of a mighty nation is at hand!

I Wonder!

I frequently wonder about the future of our country and ponder how we’ve come to this point in time.  We’re teetering on the edge of financial insolvency yet the discussion in politics is about “Sharing the Wealth” and “Social Rights”.   We’ve elected officials to lead us and yet they are divided amongst themselves and continue to push forward with plans to continue spending money we don’t have.  One solution from our president was to add more taxes onto the shoulders of the people.  We have, indeed, been taxed more while our elected officials are doing less to uphold the economic security of the financial engine on which we all depend.   The US dollar is stretched as far as it can be and will soon be torn in two, worth half of what it is now…or less.  With this possibility on the horizon, there is a discussion that the United States will go the way of Greece...yet most Americans have no idea what that means!    We haven’t focused in on that comparison and it really doesn’t seem to matter to us.  Here’s a little snip-it from the Wall Street Journal to give you an idea:

“Over the last decade, Greece went on a debt binge that came crashing to an end in late 2009, provoking an economic crisis that has decimated the country’s economy, brought down its government, unleashed increasing social unrest and threatened the future of the euro.”

 Let’s focus on the key facts from above:  economic crisis; decimated economy; failed government; unleashed social unrest; threatened value of currency!  Wow!  Like Greece, there are many problems hovering over the citizens of the United States that literally threaten our future, our life-styles and our welfare….yet there has been no mandate from We, The People.  We sit back and watch as our country races toward insolvency and our politicians stand on the edge of financial incompetency.  We watch, with our mouths open, trying to comprehend the digital display of our country’s debt, as it races upward to an amount we truly cannot fathom.  We hear on the evening news about our tax money being sent to other countries, government programs being extended and the US borrowing money from China….and still no protesting in the Public Square!  No call to action from We, The People.  Silently, our country is being destroyed from within and I forecast that we will all gasp and wonder how it came to this!  The answer is, to me, quite clear; Indifference!

There is another part of human history that also encompasses the silent destroyer of indifference.  It was the rise of Adolf Hitler.  I truly wonder how in the world a man with such a devious plan could silently rise in the ranks and come to hold such power….such sway over so many German citizens that he could persuade them to follow him to the depths of an earthly hell; talk them into assisting as they horded Jews into Death Camps; coax them into building and operating Death Chambers; then convince them into torturing, starving and freezing to death, sadistically murdering, their fellow man.  How could this have happened?  The answer, again, is indifference or unconcern.  It all began because they were unaware that evil was in their ranks. Lies were being told, propaganda was being spread, the people were being misled and over time the situation was so out of control there was no turning back.  World War was the result!  This IS World History!  Look it up!

I read that one congregation of church-goers, whose church sat by the train tracks used to transport Jews to the Death Camps, would actually sing louder when they heard the train coming so that they didn’t have to hear the evil roaring down the tracks nor the cries of the people who so desperately needed to be heard.   This is indifference!  This is lack of concern.  Did those church goers know that something was amiss?  Yes.  Did they consciously open their eyes and move into action?  NO!

I fear the same can be said of us.  Like those people on that train….our country races toward an economic destruction and we turn a blind eye.  We keep singing and living our lives…and it seems we plan to continue to do so until the point that there is no money left to operate our government, our state or our city!  Then- we’ll gasp!!!  Make no mistake- in this life, Death and Destruction come even though we are unaware.  As a blessed US citizen, being unprepared is no excuse!  By the way, what will our comments be, to our family and friends, when that time comes?  Will We, the People, be able to say that we did all we could?  Or will we say that we just were not aware of the dire economic situation at hand….or the consequences ahead. I wonder!
